Lassen Volcanic National Park makes a great weekend trip from San Francisco. It offers incredible geological wonders, including bubbling pools, boiling mudpots, and volcanic vents, plus all four types of volcanoes, some of which are accessible via hiking. Otherwise, nearby Redding is a larger city located 50 minutes from Lassen where Airbnbs are even cheaper.
This is a great moderate and relatively short hike at around 3 miles round trip. You’ll, of course, get to see Mount Shasta in all her glory, plus a very cool view of a lake from above in the shape of a heart. While in town, there are plenty of cute coffee shops, brew pubs, and bakeries to pop into. Mount Shasta Resort is a great place to stay near a golf course, spa, and lake. It also has an onsite restaurant. Petaluma is a charming and historic small town located just north of bustling San Francisco.

When in Tiburon, fuel up at the New Morning Cafe on Tiburon boulevard and then head straight to the Tiburon ridge trail at the old St. Hilary’s open space preserve which is one of the most beautiful trails in Marin county with unmatched views of the bay and San Francisco.
